National Right-to-Carry for Truckers Petition Making the Rounds

blonde woman with a gunThere is a new petition gaining ground, and I’m here to help it along. It’s a national right-to-carry for truckers petition. And it makes some valid points. I believe the time is right to get this into law soon. It would also allow anyone who travels for a living to carry a weapon anywhere in the US as long as they have a permit in their home state. If passed into law, this would supersede any local or state laws- I love that!

Truckers should have the right to carry anywhere in the country.

Think about it- when a driver is sitting in his truck in a strange town, he is technically at home. He sleeps in his truck, so that sleeper is his bedroom. He does his paperwork in his cab- that’s his office. People are allowed to defend their home from intruders. So why shouldn’t a trucker be able to defend his home on wheels?

Talk about backward times… The Constitution clearly says “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” And yet, the 2nd Amendment has been infringed over and over again by the Federal Government, most State Governments, and just about every city. However, with the gaining popularity of the 2nd Amendment, more and more states have passed laws that allow conceal-carry. Illinois is the last liberal stronghold still infringing on this basic right. So, the good news is, we are heading in the right direction on this issue.

This is the basic premise of the petition:

“Pass enabling legislation directing ATF to develop a federal firearms business carry permit that enables citizens engaged in interstate commerce to carry concealed weapons through every state.”

The 2nd Amendment:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

What part of “shall not be infringed” don’t they get? This is one issue that drives me nuts. Even though the text clearly states it shall not be infringed, it has, a lot. Don’t get me started.

I am a firm believer in a God-given right to protect oneself, and one’s family.

I agree with what Ted Nugent said one day in an interview with Evan Smith of the Texas Monthly. Nugent said, “Let’s pretend that there is no Second Amendment. I don’t need a document, and I don’t need another man to explain to me that I have the right to defend my gift of life. And, that there is an argument in America that will try to tell me they will dictate where, how and if I can defend myself, I find that preposterous. I am a free man. Don’t tread on me. The Second Amendment is my concealed-weapons permit, period.”

Maybe one of these days we’ll get some people running this country that understands that. One can only hope.
